(ROADSHOW SCENE NO. 11)
EXT. THE SHIP - DAY
Franks manages to calm the two quarreling sailors.
EXT. BRIDGE - DAY
Collins looks away from the deck below.
COLLINS
I want you to start wearing side arms. Franks, too.
BORDELLES
Aye, aye, sir.
COLLINS
Stay clear of the men yourself.
Let Franks handle them. As long
as you don't see or hear anything,
we don't have to take official
notice of anything.

COLLINS (Cont.)
(Bordelles nods)
It's a gamble, but we have no
choice. I have authority on this
ship only as long as I don't try
to exercise it. Do you understand?
BORDELLES (a bit puzzled)
Yes, sir.
COLLINS
When the water rises, and we can
get out of here and get to Shanghai,
everything will be all right. For
the time being, they're not respon-
sible. And they have to be protected.
So stay clear of them.
BORDELLES
Aye, aye, sir.
COLLINS
There has never been a mutiny on
a United States ship of war, and
I'm not going to give them the
slightest chance on this one.
